It’s March! It’s time to Celebrate!

March is an exciting month! It’s the month of Cheese Doodle Day (3/5), Panda Day (3/16), and Cheesesteak Day (3/24). And as important as Cheese Doodles are, some of our calendars are full of much more than St. Patrick’s Day (3/17), Mermaid Day (3/29), and International Waffle Day (3/25).

Awareness days are not just dates on the calendar—they are an opportunity to amplify voices, share stories, and challenge misconceptions. For those living with disabilities, these moments shine a spotlight on their unique journeys and the contributions they make to the world.

Differences are not deficits; they are a testament to the beauty of human diversity. Each person, no matter their abilities, brings something valuable to the table. Many of us have had the privilege of knowing and loving individuals who live with disabilities, and that gives us a lot to celebrate.

March is the month of:

  • National Developmental Disabilities Month (wear light blue!)
  • Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month (wear green!)
  • Brain Injury Awareness Month (wear blue!)
  • Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Awareness Month (wear orange or butterflies!)
9/3 through 9/15 is MS Awareness Week
  • Trisomy Awareness Month (wear purple and light blue!)

The following are March days of awareness:

  • 3/18 is National Trisomy 18 Awareness Day
  • 3/21 is World Down Syndrome Day (wear blue and yellow and some fun socks!)
  • 3/25 is National Cerebral Palsy Awareness Day (wear green!)

In addition to wearing certain colors, there is a lot more that you can do to raise awareness:

  • Research and learn more about various disabilities. (Always remember that some disabilities are invisible!)
  • Share what you learn. Use social media to provide resources, share facts, and tell stories.
  • Find a local walk or event in which to participate or volunteer.
  • Advocate for inclusion. And be an example by including others.
  • Support businesses that hire individuals with disabilities. Give the company a shout out on social media.

We are excited for this fun month of celebration!
