Same As U Teachers

The person in this position works under the direct supervision of the Education Director by teaching classes, supervising students throughout the day, implementing plans and programs related to the academic or functional skill attainment for students. Performance is evaluated periodically.

 

Essential Job Functions:

 

  • Teach a variety of subjects/topics
  •  Instruct students in citizenship and basic subject matter
  • Meet with the Education Director to discuss lesson plans and instructional materials
  • Prepare lessons within the topic parameters agreed upon by Teacher and Education Director
  • Translate lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction
  • Use a variety of instructional strategies
  • Maintain a classroom/campus environment that’s conducive to learning and appropriate for student behavior
  • Supervise students in out-of-classroom times during the school day
  • Ability to discuss concerns affecting students with the Education Director privately
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Ensure cleanliness of classroom and common areas so the building is ready for the next day

Same As U Teaching Assistants

The person in this position works under the direct supervision of the Education Director by providing assistance in implementing plans and programs related to the academic or functional skill attainment for students. This involves working directly with students, individually or in groups, and stepping into the teaching role as needed. Performance is evaluated periodically.

 

  • Provide academic and physical assistance to students as needed
  • Work directly with students one-to-one or in small groups
  • Assist students during transitions to endure they get to the correct classrooms
  • Supervise students in out-of-classroom times during the school day
  • Help prepare environments/materials for transitions between activities (i.e. cones, supplies, games, music)
  • Perform other duties as needed

The students supported by our programs face major barriers to accessing education; many are orphaned, living in extreme poverty or dealing with other difficult family circumstances.
